Косвенная речь
When we use reported speech, we report what was said from our point of view.
Когда мы используем косвенную речь, мы передаём сказанное с нашей точки зрения.
The tense changes from the one that the speaker originally used.
Время глагола меняется по сравнению с тем, которое использовал говорящий.
When we use direct speech, we write the exact words the person said and put quotation marks around the words.
В прямой речи мы записываем точные слова говорящего и ставим их в кавычки.
'We met on holiday in Tuapse,' he said.
«Мы познакомились на отдыхе в Туапсе», – сказал он.
When we use reported speech, we do not use quotation marks.
В косвенной речи кавычки не используются.
He said that they had met on holiday in Tuapse.
Он сказал, что они познакомились на отдыхе в Туапсе.

Some pronouns and time expressions also change in reported speech. For example:

We use the object pronoun after tell.
После tell используем местоимение в объектном падеже.
He told me that he would come.
Он сказал мне, что придёт.
We use the object pronoun with to after say.
После say тоже используем объектное местоимение, но с предлогом to.
He said to me that he would come.
Он сказал мне, что придёт.
We often put that after say/tell + object pronoun in reported speech.
В косвенной речи после say/tell и объектного местоимения часто ставим that.
Direct speech: 'You have to stop seeing your friends.'
Прямая речь: «Ты должен прекратить встречаться со своими друзьями».
Reported speech: He told me that I had to stop seeing my friends.
Косвенная речь: Он сказал мне, что я должен прекратить встречаться со своими друзьями.
Reported questions with if
Вопросы в косвенной речи с if
We use if to report Yes/No questions.
Для передачи общих вопросов (с ответом да или нет) используем if.
The word order is the same as in affirmative statements.
Порядок слов такой же, как в утвердительных предложениях.
We change the tenses in the same way as in reported speech. That is never used.
Времена меняются так же, как в косвенной речи. Слово that в таких вопросах не используется.
'Did you enjoy the party?'
«Тебе понравилась вечеринка?»
He asked me if I had enjoyed the party.
Он спросил меня, понравилась ли мне вечеринка.
